Help Shape the Future of Powerchair Sports – Participate in an International Research Study

The International Powerchair Hockey (IPCH) community is invited to contribute to a global research project led by Chase Petruska, PhD Researcher at the University of Lethbridge (Canada) whom many had the opportunity to meet during the IPCH World Championship 2026 in Pajulahti as a member of the Canadian Team delegation.

This international study aims to better understand:

  • Access to powerchair sports
  • Barriers to participation
  • Equipment and funding challenges
  • Long-term sustainability of clubs and organisations

Who should participate?

  • National Federations and governing bodies
  • Powerchair sports clubs and organisations
  • Current powerchair sport athletes
  • Individuals with physical disabilities who are not currently participating in powerchair sports (their perspectives are equally important)

A single survey link is used, and participants will automatically be directed to the questionnaire relevant to them.

Survey:

Participation is voluntary, anonymous, and confidential. No identifying information is collected, and all results will be reported only in aggregate.

The findings will provide one of the first global overviews of access to powerchair sports and will help inform future research, advocacy, funding initiatives, and programme development worldwide.

We encourage all member organisations to:

  • Complete the organisation survey.
  • Share the survey with your athletes and members.
  • Share it with individuals with physical disabilities who are not currently involved in powerchair sports.
  • Forward it to other powerchair sport organisations and clubs in your country.

Thank you for supporting this important initiative and helping strengthen the future of powerchair sports worldwide.
