IPCH Endorses 4th Dracs International Tournament in Spain
The International Powerchair Hockey Federation (IPCH) has endorsed the 4th Dracs International Tournament, organised by Dracs CEA and scheduled for 29–30 August 2026 at Can Bassa Sports Hall in Granollers, Barcelona.
The tournament will feature eight teams from Spain, Italy, Czech Republic, Belgium and Germany. It is organised with the support of the Spanish Federation of Sports for People with Disabilities (Federación Española de Deportes para Personas con Discapacidad Física – FEDDF), Spain’s national federation for the development and governance of Powerchair Hockey.
The endorsement forms part of IPCH’s framework for recognising selected club-level tournaments and strengthens cooperation between the international federation, national movements and clubs. It also follows significant progress by Powerchair Hockey in Spain, including the national team’s best-ever result at a World Championship at the IPCH World Championship 2026 in Finland.
“We are very happy and proud to be part of the Dracs International Tournament and to support the continued development of Powerchair Hockey in Spain,” said Danni Mogensen IPCH Chairperson. “Spain has made significant progress over recent years, and the national team’s performance at the World Championship in Finland was an important milestone. This partnership allows us to build on that progress by working with Dracs, FEDDF and the wider Spanish Powerchair Hockey movement.”
The two-day programme will include group-stage matches, crossover games, semi-finals and placement matches. For IPCH, recognised club tournaments provide an important link between international competition and the national and club environments in which athletes, coaches and officials develop.
Developing Officials and Aligning Standards
Officials’ development is a central component of the partnership. Spanish referees will receive education and assessment based on the IPCH Game Rules and international officiating principles.
The Sport Executive Committee, in cooperation with the IPCH Referee Observer Committee, has appointed Ilkka Siiki as an IPCH Instructor to deliver a national referee development course. Mateo Delgado, an IPCH C-Licensed referee, will also join the officiating team.
Spanish referees with national-level experience will participate in structured education and practical officiating based on international principles and criteria. Alfonso Gutiérrez from Spain and Kristian Reenberg from Denmark, both members of the IPCH Referee Development Group (RDG), will also be involved as they progress towards the IPCH International Referee Licence – Level C.
The initiative supports IPCH’s objective of bringing national and international officiating standards closer together. Consistent interpretation and application of the Game Rules across countries and competitions are essential to the sport’s continued international development. Common standards provide greater clarity for athletes, coaches, clubs and officials and contribute to a structured and internationally recognised sporting framework, including in relation to organisations such as the International Paralympic Committee (IPC).
Serving the Spanish Movement
The partnership demonstrates how international, national and club structures can cooperate on competition, education and officials’ development.
IPCH’s role extends beyond organising and regulating international competitions. Through referee courses, instructor support, observation and development pathways, the federation supports the people and structures that sustain Powerchair Hockey at national and club level.
“Our role is not only to regulate and organise international competitions. We also want to make the knowledge, experience and expertise of the international community available to national movements,” added the IPCH Chairperson Danni Mogesen. “The work in Spain is a clear example of this approach. By working with FEDDF, Dracs and the Spanish Powerchair Hockey community, we can support national referees, identify and develop future international officials, and promote greater consistency in the application of the Game Rules.”
